THE AGUDATH HARABONIM, RABBINICAL ASSOCIATION, AT A CONFERENCE HERE, APPEALED TO THE JEWS OF THE UNITED STATES AND CANADA TO OBSERVE ZOM GEDALIAH SEPT. 9 AS A FAST DAY IN PROTEST AGAINST PERSECUTION OF JEWS IN EASTERN EUROPE, PARTICULARLY IN POLAND.
APPROXIMATELY $50,000 IS EXPECTED TO BE RAISED IN BEHALF OF THE POLISH JEWS THROUGH AN AGREEMENT REACHED BETWEEN NEW YORK GARMENT UNIONS AND EMPLOYERS’ ASSOCIATIONS WHEREBY JEWISH WORKERS WILL WORK A HALF DAY ON SATURDAY, SEPT. 11, TO MAKE UP FOR THE ROSH HASHONAH HOLIDAY. THEY WILL BE PAID AT THE RATE OF TIME AND A HALF. THE EXTRA HALF-TIME WILL BE GIVEN TO THE JEWISH LABOR COMMITTEE TO AID THE POLISH JEWS.
