U.S. Ratification of Genocide Convention Urged by Mrs. Roosevelt and Prof. Cassion

United States ratification of the U.N. convention outlawing genocide was urged here last night by Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt, chairman of the U.N. Commission on Human Rights, and Prof. Rene Cassin, vice-chairman of the Commission, at a dinner sponsored in their honor by the American Friends of the Alliance Israelite Universelle. Prof. Cassin is president of the Alliance.

Mrs. Roosevelt praised the work of the Alliance in whose schools in Israel and in the Moslem countries more than 49,000 children receive a modern education. Jules Braunschvig, vice-president of the organization, reported that the Israeli Government is encouraging expansion of the Alliance school system in Israel.He said that 200 Jewish families of Moroccan origin who are now in Jerusalem have asked for the immediate opening of another Alliance school.

Other speakers lauding the work of the Alliance included Alan M. Stroock, president of the American Friends of the organization, Judge Joseph M. Proskauer, and Rabbi Jonah B. Wise. Marcel Franco, vice-president of the American Friends of the Alliance, reported that the organization now has chapters in 12 Latin American countries.
