Gordon R. Clapp, newly appointed head of the economic survey mission of the United Nations Palestine Conciliation Commission, has arrived in Washington to begin consultations, a spokesman for the State Department said today.
Michael J. McDermott, Department press officer, stated today that Paul A. Porter, American representative on the Commission, will talk with State Department officials on his return. It was also stated that Mr. Porter will talk with Mr. Clapp before the Tennessee Valley Authority chairman leaves for the Near East.
(In London it was revealed today that the proposal that Britain be represented on the U.N. Conciliation Commission’s Palestine economic survey group — although it is not a member of the Commission — was made by the United States delegation. The same source also declared that the British member of the body, who will be one of its vice-chairman, will be named within the next day or two. He will be a person with economic experience in the Middle East, possibly a former civil servant of the Palestine Mandatory Administration.)
