The U.S. Coast Guard cutter “Courier,” the Voice of America’s first sea-going radio station, began relaying Voice of America broadcasts in Hebrew on a regular basis today, Dr. Wilson Compton, head of the International Information Administration, announced. Programs will be beamed to the Near East and the Soviet Union and will be broadcast in Hebrew and eight other languages. The cutter will be anchored at Rhodes in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea.

The announcer on the first program told his listeners that the purpose of the casts was to “explain to the Jews the truth regarding the facts which have been hidden from them and to let the Jews know about Arabs who believe in progressive ideas.”)
