The United States has recognized from the beginning that in order to survive, Israel would have to depend in large measure on the good will and financial and moral assistance not only of the American people but also of the U.S. Government, Secretary of Interior Oscar L. Chapman told an audience of 5,000 Jews last night at the Histadrut Third Seder here.

The Secretary emphasized that if “some dark force of evil” is permitted to strike at Israel, that blow would constitute an attack on the way of life Americans hold so dear and cherish so much. Rep. Jacob K. Javits, member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee. who was also one of the speakers at the seder, called upon the NATO powers to admit Israel into the NATO organization. Other speakers included Mordecai Namir, former Israel Minister to Moscow, who is now the secretary general of the Histadrut in Israel.
