American support for the admission of Transjordan to United Nations membership is based on this Government’s adherence to the U. N. charter and the belief that all countries should become members, it was explained today by State Department circles.
Individual relations between nations are not considered as a criterion for judging U. N. membership applications, it was said. The non-recognition by the United States of Transjordan is a separate matter altogether, according to the State Department. Since this country subscribes to the U. N. charter setting forth certain conditions and rules for membership admission, the relations of the United States with a given state have nothing to do with our position on applications for joining the U. N., it was pointed out.
