The State Department announced officially that the United States has suspended all shipments of military goods to the Israel-Egyptian area. It was emphasized, however, that Saudi Arabia is not considered in the area by the State Department and that U.S. munitions shipments to that country are continuing. Iraq, too, will continue to get free U.S. military aid under the U.S. grant program.
Lincoln White, State Department spokesman, said the United States acted to withhold military supplies under Article III of the UN resolution. It called on member nations to refrain from introducing arms into the area. During the last 16 months Israel’s purchases of military supplies in the United States amounted to only $400,000.
