A recommendation that the United States delegation take a position in the United Nations calling upon the Arab states and Israel to negotiate for peace seriously, was made here by Jacob Blaustein, president of the American Jewish Committee, during a conference with Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, Henry A. Byroade.
Mr. Blaustein urged that while negotiating peace, both sides be called upon to comply strictly with the armistice agreements. He stated that there are some clauses in the agreements with reference to which there has never even been an an attempt at implementation. “By supplanting the present uneasy armistice with peace,” he declared, “political security and vital economic development can be brought to the region.”
