The United States today informed U.N. secretary-general Trygve Lie that the British Government must formulate a more concrete proposal with regard to the Palestine issue before it can accept his plan for the establishment of a U.N. committee on Palestine.

The U.S. delegation to the United Nations issued the following statement: “The United States is unable to reach a final conclusion with respect to the best procedure for dealing with this problem (Palestine) in the United Nations in the absence of a concrete formulation of the problem by the British Government.”
