American Jews were urged today in Rosh Hashanah messages by Zionist groups in this country to help increase Israel’s strength and to create close spiritual and cultural links with Israel.
Leading in this call was Rabbi Irving Miller, chairman of the American Zionist Council which represents all major Zionist organizations. “As we step over the threshold into the year 5723, may we rededicate ourselves to the enhancement of our Jewish heritage, the love of Zion which has found new expression in the Israel of our day, the more meaningful attachment to our religious faith, a Broader knowledge of our people’s language and history and a strengthened solidarity among Jewish communities throughout the world, ” he said.
Statements in similar vein were issued in special Rosh Hashanah messages by Dr. Max Nussbaum, president of the Zionist Organization of America; Mrs. Siegfried Kramarsky, national president of Hadassah, the women’s Zionist organization of America; Albert Schiff, president of the Jewish National Fund of America; Samuel H. Daroff, president of the American Jewish League for Israel; Joseph Schlossberg, president of the National Committee for Labor Israel; Louis Segal, general secretary of the Farband-Labor Zionist Order; and Mrs. Sidney Leff, president of Pioneer Women.
