A prominent Soviet newspaper has published a violent attack on the Jewish religion, asserting that “the Jewish religion has always been the maidservant of the capitalists.” The article by Dr. B. Taicher appeared under the heading, “In the Service of Reaction,” in the Sept. 6 edition of the Ukrainian Pravda, organ of the Ukrainian Communist Party. Copies of the paper were received here today.
Most of the recent numerous anti-Jewish attacks featured in the Soviet press have involved Israel and, apparently, were aimed at creating anti-Israeli sentiment. This has been the case particularly since the Arab-Israel war last June when the Soviet authorities coupled their bitter diplomatic attack on Israel with a vitriolic anti-Israel press and radio propaganda campaign.
