The Ukrainian Ozet, Society for Jewish Land Settlement, has a membership of 130,000, according to a report submitted at the organization’s plenary conference just concluded here.
During the last year, the membership increased by 44,000, including many non-Jews. Nine thousand members were dismissed from the organization as non-working elements.
A. Merezhin, who came here from Moscow to attend the conference, criticized J. Larin, declaring that he was unjustified in his statement that Biro-Bidjan is unsuitable for Jewish colonization. However, Mr. Merezhin stated, there are many difficulties which must still be conquered.
