The Secretary of the Arab League, Chedli Klibi, urged the General Assembly today to impose sanctions on Israel for its annexation of the Golan Heights. Addressing the emergency special session dealing with Israel’s Golan move December 14, Klibi warned that if the international community failed to take punitive measures against Israel, the Israelis might annex other territories.
When the Assembly began its debate last Friday, Ambassador Yehuda Blum of Israel said the meeting was a “phony emergency session.” He called on Syria to begin direct negotiations with Israel “to achieve agreed settlement on all the outstanding issues.” Diplomats here said the Assembly session will probably conclude Friday with a harsh anti-Israel, anti-U.S. resolution.
