Dr. James Sheldon, president of the American Association for the United Nations said here that the UN recognition of the Palestine Liberation Organization was a contributing factor in the terrorist attack here last Wednesday night. Dr. Sheldon, who has been visiting Israel as head of a 24-member Association delegation, said he group would call on the UN to act against the PLO and would also ask the world body to extend the mandate of the UN forces serving as buffers between Israel and Egypt and Israel and Syria.
Dr. Sheldon noted that the Association had opposed UN recognition of the PLO and had warned that recognition would “encourage the PLO to take further terrorist acts.” He made this statement to reporters on the eve of the group’s departure from Israel.
