The vacant summer homes in the resort towns of Otvotzk are becoming a mecca for thousands of Polish Jews unable to pay rents where they are now living. Every train bound for Otvotzk is crowded with Jews going there to convert summer homes into camps which they heat with timber from neighboring forests.
The migration to Otvotzk has become so great that the Jewish community today decided to take an interest in the matter because most of those going to Otvotzk have not enough bread for one day and many have not even the few zlotys for fare. The trek to Otvotzk is expected to increase shortly because the idea of using the vacant summer homes is becoming popular.
At the same time there is a fear that this mass movement may cause an epidemic of disease because of malnutrition and lack of sanitary facilities. The Warsaw officials have been asked to look into the matter by the local Jewish press.
