Thousands of ancient Hebrew bibles, some of historic importance, dating from the discovery of printing, were found today during excavations for a new street here which forced authorities to destroy an ancient Jewish cemetery.

Approached by Jewish leaders, Premier Mussolini at once agreed to the reburial of the bibles with a solemn ceremony, while preserving the rarer specimens of historical value.
