Archaeologists have unearthed the remains of a structure believed to have been a fortress dating from the times of the Prophet Jeremiah. The site of the discovery is at the foot of French Hill in northern Jerusalem. The fortress appears to have been built to guard the road from Jerusalem to Nablus. The excavations were conducted by the Government department of antiquities under the supervision of Dr. Ora Negbi of Tel Aviv University.
