A memorandum charging anti-Jewish discrimination by the Governments of Jordan and Lebanon, submitted by the World Jewish Congress, was today referred to the general conference of the UNESCO session for discussion.
The Congress charged that Jordan discriminates against Jews among UNESCO personnel assigned to that Arab country. The Lebanese discrimination is extended to all “persons of Jewish faith generally,” the WJC charged.
It asked that UNESCO take action to insure that its personnel be freed from discrimination in any regulations which UNESCO enacts. At the same time, the Congress asked UNESCO to declare its opposition to any attempt to introduce discrimination within the UNESCO framework.
