Two thousand rabbis and Jewish lay leaders from all parts of the country will participate in the 52nd annual Convention of the Union of American Hebrew Congregations which will be held early in January in St. Louis. The Union of American Hebrew Congregations consists of 273 congregations and has a member ship of 43,947. The purpose of this convention is to confer or matters relating to the advancement of Reformed Judaism in America.
At the same time the National Federations of Temple Sisterhoods and Temple Brotherhoods will hold their conventions.
Special significance is attached to the convention this year, when a committee of 25 headed by David of Detroit, appointed at a recent special conference of Detroit, appointed at a recent special conference of the Union in Chicago, will present a report calling for a new plan of how to raise funds for the work of the Union. It is planned that each congregation affiliate with the Union should be taxed with a certain percentage of its general income towards the maintenance of the Union. The Union of American Hebrew Congregations supports the Hebrew Union College at Cincinnati.
