Michael Schaap, chairman of the Trades Council of the United Jewish Appeal will be honored today for his leadership in the campaign at a luncheon at the Hotel Commodore, Dr. G. A. Lowenstein, chairman of the luncheon committee, announced yesterday.
The luncheon will mark Mr. Schaap’s resumption of active work among industrial and professional groups on behalf of German refugees following his return from Europe. Mr. Schaap’s activities enabled the Trades Council to raise more than $250,000 for the United Jewish Appeal. He has accepted one of the committee chairmanships for the “Night of Stars” production at the Yankee Stadium on September 20.
Leaders of the thirty trade and professional groups affiliated with the Trades Council, as well as other prominent leaders in industry and commerce, will be present at the luncheon.
Among the speakers will be Morris Rothenberg, president of the Zionist Organization of America, and Louis K. Sidney.
