Joachim Orenstajn, leader of the Jewish Federation of Sao Paulo, was presented here with the United Hias Service 1961 Man-of-the-Year Award of Honor given in recognition of effective leadership and devoted service rendered to Jewish immigrants. The award was presented to him by Harold Trobe, United Hias Service director for Latin American Operations.
(In New York, James P. Rice, executive director of United Hias, reported that since 1954, more than 7,000 Jewish immigrants from Eastern Europe, Egypt and North Africa have found a haven in Brazil, and that 60 per cent of them have established themselves in Sao Paulo.)
