United Hias Service today received a Joseph P. Chamberlain Award from Governor Averell Harriman, for leadership in the task of receiving and resettling refugees in this country.
The award, in the form of a scroll, was given at a luncheon chaired by Isador Lubin, State Industrial Commissioner, who is chairman of the N. Y. State Refugee Committee. It was received on behalf of United Hias president, Abner Bregman, by the agency’s executive director, James P. Rice. The Chamberlain Awards are named after the former Columbia University professor who became a foremost figure in the immigration field.
