The United Hias Service is currently giving vital migration and integration aid to close to 1,000 persons per month, James P. Rice, executive director, reported here today at the opening session of the organization’s sixth annual migration conference at the UNESCO building here.

Jewish migrations during World Refugee Year is the theme of the current United Hias conference which will hear reports of organization representatives from Europe, the United States, Canada, Latin America, North Africa, Australia and Israel. The organization celebrates its 75th anniversary this year.

A United Hias Service report issued at the meeting shows that, in the course of the past five years, the agency has helped resettle 37,000 persons in the United States and other lands. In the first half of 1959, more than 6,000 men, women and children were assisted by Hias.

Among the speakers at the opening session were Charles Jordan, overseas director of the Joint Distribution Committee and co-chairman of the International Committee for World Refugee Year; Harold Trobe, director of European and North African operations of United Hias, and Paul Pelletier, of the French Ministry of the Interior.
