Itzhak Gruonbaum, former Israeli Minister of Interior, warned here last night that war conditions in the Middle East had not yet ended. He spoke at an outdoor rally attended by 20,000 persons, which officially launched the United Israeli Campaign in this country.
Urging all-out financial support for the absorption in Israel of thousands of immigrants, Gruenbaum pledged that immigration to the Jewish state will not be restricted under any circumstances. He also called for Argentine Jewish youths to settle in Israel as pioneers. Leading Jewish and non-Jewish figures, including members of Parliament, also addressed the meeting.
Dr. Ricardo Dubrovsky, president of the DAIA, central representative Jewish body in the Argentine, pledged the wholehearted support of this country’s Jewish community to the Jewish state. Pablo Manguel, newly-appointed Argentine Minister to Israel, was one of the honored guests. Parades through Buenos Aires’ streets were held after the rally’s close.
Meanwhile, it was announced here today that a group of 19 Jews were arrested last night at the Argentine frontier after attempting to enter the country illegally fro Uruguay.
