The United Jewish Appeal of Greater New York has reached the $20,000,000 mark in its 1955 drive, it was announced today at a luncheon where 250 volunteer leaders reported on the progress their divisions of the campaign have made, and resolved to continue intensified fund-raising activities through the summer.
A check for $1,300,000, the proceeds of a series of mass telephone solicitation sessions conducted by volunteer workers for the past month at New York UJA headquarters, was presented to campaign treasurer Samuel D. Leidesdorf by State Attorney General Jacob K. Javits, who served as chairman of the June telephone effort. Mr. Leidesdorf turned the check over to Edward M. M. Warburg, president of the nationwide United Jewish appeal, as New York’s latest contribution toward the 1955 national UJA goal.
