The necessity for a more successful U.J.A. campaign in 1950 than in any previous year was emphasized today by Henry Morgenthau, Jr., general chairman of the United Jewish Appeal, addressing a meeting at the Hotel Astor which marked the launching of this year’s drive of the United Jewish Appeal of Greater New York. The meeting was also addressed by Monroe Goldwater, president of the U.J.A. of Greater New York.
The objective of the 1950 campaign of the U.J.A. of Greater New York is to help raise the minimum of $272,455,800 required by the national United Jewish Appeal to carry out its world-wide relief, resettlement and rehabilitation programs. New Yorkers contributed $162,000,000 to the New York United Jewish Appeal in four campaigns since 1946, more than $40,000,000 of which was raised in 1949.
