A six-day drive in the metropolitan area, to raise $1,000,000 each day toward a quota of $35,000,000 in the campaign to aid surviving European Jews and refugees immigrating to the United States, will begin tomorrow, designated as United Jewish Appeal Day by Mayor William O’Dwyer.
More than 12,000 volunteers will canvass the five boroughs during the “million-dollar-a-day” campaign, which will be opened at a breakfast meeting of 250 campaign leaders at the Hotel Commodores tomorrow. Edward M. Warburg, campaign chairman, will preside. James G. McDonald, member of the Joint Anglo-American Committee of Inquiry on Palestine, will be the principal speaker at the breakfast and will report on his recent journey to Europe and Palestine.
A special conference of 300 U.J.A. leaders was held during the weekend at Ferndale. N.Y. It was addressed by Representative Emanuel Celler who demanded that the United States insist upon “full and immediate implementation” of the Anglo-American inquiry commission’s recommendation to admit 100,000 homeless European Jews to Palestine.
