Further progress was reported in the United Jewish Campaign for the first day of the second week of the drive. David M. Bressler, Acting Chairman of the $6,000,000 United Jewish Campaign of New York announced that the Rockaway, Long Island community, which originally assumed a quota of $100,000, raised $165,000 and now seeks $200,000. The division is headed by Leon Lauterstein as chairman for Long Island.

Messrs. Mandel and Saxe, of the St. Nicholas Baths, 11th St. and St. Nicholas Avenue, stated that they would donate the receipts on Monday, May 10th to the fund.

A call for men was made by Louis Marshall in an address at a conference of members of the Real Estate Division yesterday at the Hotel Biltmore. “If this campaign fails,” he emphasized, “it will not be due to the fact that the Jews were not generous in the giving, but because of the lack of a large army of workers.”

Harry Goodstein, chairman of the Realtors, also spoke, and appointed a committee to assist him in raising its quota of $1,000,000. The committee consists of Edward Blum, Hyman Sonn, Nathan Wilson, Benjamin Winter, David W. Kempner, Benjamin Benenson, Max Gordon, Barnet M. House and Nathan C. House.

The Curb Exchange Committee of the United Jewish Campaign was organized yesterday at the office of Carl H. Pforzheimer & Co., under the chairmanship of Mr. Emil Mosbacher and Mr. Herbert G. Einstein. Among those present were Messrs. Herbert Einstein, George C. Winchell, Herbert D. Oppenheimer, Edwin Posner, Emanuel Jackson and Carl H. Pforzheimer. Mr. Mosbacher contributed $1,000.

JEWISH COMMUNAL ACTIVITIES

Ground has been broken for the West Philadelphia Jewish Community Center. Three hundred children from Beth Judah Sunday School and West Philadelphia Hebrew School participated in the ceremonies.

The Jewish community of Beaumont and Port Arthur, Texas, undertook to raise $30,000 for the United Jewish Campaign and the United Palestine Appeal at a mass meeting at which $16,000 was raised. Dr. ###kowitz of Dallas. Texas, delivered the appeal for European relief and Rabbi H. Raphael Gold of New Orleans delivered the appeal for Palestine.
