A total of $13,576,404 has been paid into the treasury of the United Jewish Campaign as of January 15th of this year, against pledges totalling $19,700,000, according to an official announcement by David A. Brown, National Chairman. Collection drives are in progress in hundreds of communities to secure early payment of outstanding balances, Mr. Brown stated.
This announcement is made in the latest issue of the United Jewish Campaign News, organ of the campaign.
New York City, which pledged $6,500,000, has already paid in $5,059,000; Chicago, pledging $1,000,000, has paid in $850,000; and Philadelphia, which pledged $1,222,210, has paid in to date $730,833.
Sixteen communities pledging over $1,000 have paid in 100% of their pledges. These are: Columbus, Ohio; Harrisburg, Pa.; Macon, Ga.; Poughkeepsie, N. Y.; Pontiac, Mich.; Sunbury, Pa.; Rome, Ga.; Albany, Ga.; Plattsburg, N. Y.; Greenwich, Conn.; Statesville, N. C.; Gloversville, N. Y.; Tonkawa, Okla.; LaGrange, Ga.; Rocky Mount, N. C.; and Blowing Rock, N. C.
Leading the communities which have collected 100% of their pledges are Columbus, Ohio, with payments of $55,100 against pledges of $55,000 and Harrisburg, Pa., whose payments of $26,000 exceeded its pledges to the campaign by $1,000.
Seventy-five per cent and more of pledges have been collected by 96 communities where less than $100,000 but more than $1,000 were pledged, and by 12 communities where $100,000 and upward were pledged.
Twenty-four cities pledged $100,000 and over. Exclusive of New York City. Philadelphia and Chicago, they are: Indianapolis, which has paid in $140,900, 91.5 per cent of its pledge of $154,026; New Orleans, $94,771 or 88.6 per cent of its $106,920 pledge; Milwaukee, $149,859, or 82.1 per cent of its pledge of $182,474; Pittsburgh, Pa., $350,222, or 81.7 per cent of its pledge (Nov. 1926) of $428,353; Portland, Ore., $171,500, or 80.5 per cent of its pledge of $213,064; Kansas City. Mo., $132,200, or 78.8 per cent of $167,608; Rochester, N. Y., $176,000, or 78.7 per cent of $224,326; Cincinnati, $265,174, or 77.1 per cent of $343, 732; Detroit, $262,852, or 76.7 per cent of $342,393; Montreal, $97,045 or 75.6 per cent of $128,356; San Francisco, $240,705, or 74 per cent of $325,000; Louisville, Ky., $93,980, or 73.4 per cent of $127,909; Newark, N. J., $128,055, or 71.1 epr cent of $180,080; St. Louis, $220,322, or 69.5 per cent of $316,667; Cleveland, O., $280,038 or 61.5 per cent of $454,782; Washington, D. C., $66,825, or 58.1 per cent of $115,000, Seattle, $67,623, or 57.8 per cent of $116,953, Los Angeles, $171,775, or 52.8 per cent of $325,000; Buffalo, $50,333, or 50.3 per cent of $100,000; Boston, which had its drive in February, 1927, has already paid in $160,170, or 39.8 per cent of its pledges of $401,598; and Baltimore, where the drive took place in January of last year has paid in $127,461, or 39.6 per cent of its pledges of $321,633. In both Baltimore and Boston pledges were made on the basis of three annual payments.
