The United Nations Committee on Refugees and Displaced Persons today unanimously approved a report outlining the machinery and financing of the new international refuges agency which it has recommended should be established.
The report urges creation of the post of director-general, who will be the chief executive officer of the agency, subject to control by the executive committee of the U.N. General Assembly. The budget of the organization will be submitted annually to the U.N. Economic and Social Council, although the body will not be directly controlled by the United Nations.
Funds to finance large-scale resettlement schemes will be contributed by the various interested governments according to an approved scale of contributions.
