United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan told Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat not to expect that his visit to the Middle East would lead to a sudden improvement in the deadlocked Israeli-Palestinian negotiations. Calling himself a “magician without tricks” during a joint news conference with Arafat, Annan said there should be no “exaggerated expectations of what the secretary- general can do.” Annan is slated to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday.
