With more than $25,000 raised toward its $60,000 quota, Bensonhurst is conducting its campaign in the Brooklyn Division of the United Palestine Appeal. Samuel Kramer is chairman of the Bensonhurst drive and Jacob Rabinowitz was recently elected Treasurer.
Morris Rothenberg, National Chairman of the Board of Directors of the United Palestine Appeal, recently addressed a gathering at the home of Jacob Rabinowitz at which several large contributions to the campaign were received.
On Tuesday evening, March 20, former State Senator Nathan Straus, Jr. will address a mass meeting at the Jewish Community House. Officers assisting Samuel Kramer, Chairman, in the campaign are Rabbi Nachman Ebin, Honorary Chairman; Abrahm Beir of Lefferts Park Talmud Torah, Abraham Cohen of the Mizrachi Organization, Jacob Dunn of the Yeshiva, Herman Neaderland of the Jewish Community House, Samuel Redlich of Congregation Tifereth Torah and Mrs. A. J. Bandes, of Hadassah, Vice Chairman and M.B. Pecker.
Women’s activities in the campaign are being sponsored by the Bensonhurst group of Hadassah under the leadership of Mrs. A. J. Bandes, Mrs. N.H. Ebin, Mrs. David Freiberger, Mrs. A. H. Sable and Mrs. Louis Landsberg.
The Bronx division of the United Palestine Appeal for Greater New York will launch its drive for a quota of $150,000 on Sunday evening, March 11, with a $100-a-plate dinner at the Concourse Plaza Hotel. The campaign is receiving the support of all Jewish congregations in the Bronx, according to an announcement made by Max J. Schneider, Chairman of the Bronx campaign.
The sections of the Bronx have been organized under the leadership of the following chairmen: M. A. Bakerman, Lower Bronx; Dr. M. A. Silver, Castle Hill; Nathan Weingarten, Commonwealth; Maurice Shapiro and Max Rothman, Bronx Gardens; Assistant District Attorney Barney Mogilefsky and Harry Zeldin, President of the Jewish Center of Williamsbridge, North Bronx; Morris Usdan and Arthur Le Vine, Nelson Avenue; I. H. Shaefer, University Heights; M. L. Margolish, Concourse, and Simon Berger, Fordham.
Activities of the three Hadassah groups have been combined in the interest of the campaign. Mrs. Benjamin Antin is honorary chairman and Mrs. D. A. Lubarsky and Mrs. Max Levien, chairmen. Mrs. Philip Wechsler is president of the Concourse group of Hadassah; Mrs. D. Paris, University group, and Mrs. R. Zuckerman, East Bronx group.
