The first post-war convention of the United Synagogue of America, the federation of Conservative congregations, opened here tonight at the St. Charles Hotel, with 1,000 delegates from 500 synagogues in attendance. The meeting will continue through Sunday. The opening address was delivered by Samuel Rothstein, president of the organization, who stressed that world Jewry faces a crisis of survival in the next 20 years.
