The Student Affairs Committee of the University of Michigan voted to require all campus organizations to remove discriminatory clauses from their constitutions by the fall of 1956, or he denied official recognition.

The main objective of the new ruling are 17 of 43 campue fraternities which still have discriminatory clauses in their constitutions. The constitutions of these organizations — affiliated with national groups — can be changed only by national convention. The Student Affairs Committee is composed of seven students and six faculty members. Its vote has the backing of the Student Legislature and requires only the approval of the University president.
