Hungarian Foreign Minister Janos Gyongyosi, who has just returned from the United States, said today that additional assistance from UNRRA is the best means of fighting anti-Semitism in this country. He asserted that the unstable economy of Hungary and the consequent lack of adequate food and clothing was the chief cause of anti-Semitism.
It was announced today that the much-delayed trial of the persons charged with responsibility for the anti-Jewish outbreak in the town of Kunmadaras, during which several Jews were killed, will open here on Wednesday. The presiding judge will be Dr. Kurzly Naby, who presided over the court which sentenced Bela Imredi, late anti-Semitic premier, to death.
President Zoltan Tildy yesterday received Dr. Joseph Schwartz, European director of the Joint Distribution Committee, and expressed appreciation for the valuable assistance given to Jews and some non-Jews here by the JDC. He reiterated that the government was determined to crush anti-Semitism.
