Plans for intensifying the world-wide anti-German boycott and establishing an international secretariat to coordinate the boycott activities in all civilized countries were mapped out here today at a preliminary session of the Jewish Economic Conference at the Carlton Hotel. Dr. A. Coralnik, chairman of the American League for the Defense of Jewish Rights, opened the session in the presence of thirty delegates from many different countries, including three Americans, Dr. Coralnik, Samuel Untermyer and J. George Fredman.
The conference will last two days and will conduct its sessions secretly. At today’s session, delegates listened to a report from ten countries on how the boycott was being conducted in these lands. The reports also described efforts being made to organize facilities for the interchanging of products between different countries in order to push out German goods.
RABBI WISE ATTACKED
Dr. Stephen S. Wise, who has bitterly opposed this preliminary conference, was attacked today by Samuel Untermyer, who in a statement called Dr. Wise a “trouble maker.” Mr. Untermyer challenged Dr. Wise to declare openly whether he was for the anti-German boycott or against it. He added that Dr. Wise does not represent the American Jewish Congress, ninety percent of whose members “enthusiastically favor actively supporting the boycott.”
Authorities of the Amsterdam municipality and Dutch government adopted an attitude of strict impartiality toward the conference, but the fact that the sessions are veiled in secrecy has stimulated great interest in the Dutch press.
