A suggestion that before the Saar is handed over to Germany on March 1 international officials should carefully go into the charge against every individual now in the Saar prisons is made here by the press today, which points out that many innocent Jews and political opponents of the Nazis are being kept in the Saarbruecken jail.

“It may only be a rumor, but it might also be a fact that many people are under arrest in the Saar on trumped-up charges and are being kept in jail until the Saar is a part of Germany, with the Nazis in control,” Vernon Barclay, internationally known British journalist writes here.

“If that precaution can be taken to prevent innocent Jews and political opponents of the Nazis from suffering in jail, Europe will be able to congratulate itself upon the way in which it has exercised the worst curse put upon it at Versailles,” Mr. Barclay states.
