Uri Avneri, magazine editor and former Knesset member of the leftist Progressive List for Peace, said on his return from a visit to Amman last Thursday that he was not optimistic over Mideast peace prospects in light of what he heard in the Jordanian capital. Avneri, who said he met with several Jordanian and Palestinian leaders, though not with King Hussein, maintained that time was running out for peace. He said another push from the U.S. was needed to regain the momentum.
