Uri Gordon, head of the Jewish Agency for Israel’s department of immigration and absorption, died over the weekend at the age of 65. Gordon supervised the absorption of 14,000 Ethiopian Jews who immigrated as part of Operation Solomon during the early 1990s, and in recent years was involved in absorbing Jews from the former Soviet Union into Israel.
