Widespread raids on Nazis were under way today following the arrest of 12 leaders of an alleged Nazi plot to overthrow the Uruguayan Government.
Meanwhile, the Senate enacted a measure banning all organizations controlled from abroad. The measure, designed chiefly against Nazi and Fascist groups, had been previously passed by the Chamber of Deputies.
In addition to the Nazis arrested, 40 German engineers and technicians employed by the German-controlled Rio Negro Hydroelectric plant at Rincon del Bonete were brought here for questioning. All belong to the local Nazi organization.
