Israeli and American officials have recently conducted intensive exchanges of information concerning the arms balance in the Middle East, it was learned today. Israel has been demanding the resumption of deliveries of Phantom jets independent of any progress on an interim Suez agreement with Egypt. The US says that Israel’s claim that it needs more of the supersonic fighters is still “under review.” According to Dan Margalit, diplomatic correspondent of Haaretz, the talks are being conducted on a professional level. Israel’s Military Attache in Washington, Maj. Gen. Eli Zeira, was recently here on a visit. Parallel talks on the matter have been going on in Washington.
