Citrons and palm branches, the Etrog and Lulab used in the Succoth ritual, will this year be sent from the United States to England inasmuch as they cannot be secured from either the Greek island of Corfu, the place which provided strength for the whole of Europe, or from Palestine, because of the war situation.
The Food Ministry in London has issued special licenses to Jewish religious bodies to import the citrons and the palm branches from the United States, it was announced here today. The Bank of England has released the currency necessary for the transaction and British shipping authorities in New York were given instructions to facilitate the shipping, so that they will reach England before the Succoth holiday. The shipment will be distributed by the Keren Hatorah in London to all the synagogues in the United Kingdom. A few sets of etrogim and lulabim will be sent gratis to the internment camps for use there.
