Speaking at a tea given by the National Board of Hadassah, the Women’s Zionist Organization of America, Menachem Mendel Ussishkin, president of the World Jewish National Fund, recently arrived from Palestine, spoke about the Haifa Bay developments in Palestine. He spoke in Yiddish. Haifa Bay, according to Ussishkin, is one of the most important ports of Palestine and at present large sums of money are being invested in its development. Pipe lines for oil are being laid now. The full development of the district surrounding the Bay will improve the economic conditions of the country immeasurably.

Mr. Ussishkin pointed out that the 8,250 acres which Hadassah will purchase and develop over a period of ten years at a cost of $825,000, can be used for homes and for the growth of a business section. He stated that since Hadassah is including sanitation in its budget for this piece of work and is also lending its experts for consultation and advice, the part which the American Zionist women are playing not only in the Haifa Bay project, but in the whole program for the upbuilding of Palestine, is a vitally important one.

Hadassah and Junior Hadassah will raise $70,000 yearly for this specific purpose. This is aside from the $540,000 which the American Zionist women will send to Palestine during the coming year to support the Hadassah Medical Organization of Palestine, which includes five hospitals with their five dispensaries and also 32 rural dispensaries, 22 child welfare stations and numerous other constructive health projects.
