The income tax proposed by the Palestine government was discussed here at a nine hour meeting of the Palestine Jewish National Council which concluded at two o’clock this morning.
The majority of the speakers pointed out that an income tax will harm the development of the country and frighten foreign Jewish capital away from making investments in Palestine.
The majority of those present demanded the passing of an immediate resolution expressing opposition to the tax. Upon the recommendation, however of Dr. Chaim Arlosoroff, member of the Jewish Agency Executive in charge of political affairs, a special committee was appointed to draw up such a resolution.
The Committee was instructed to have the resolution ready within a fortnight and to co-ordinate its action in the matter with the Jewish Agency Executive.
