A vigorous campaign to force a change in the Rumanian constitution by which national minorities in Rumania would be declared second class citizens was launched today by Dr. Vaida-Voevod, former premier and a leader of the National Peasant party.
Dr. Vaida-Voevod, notorious for his anti-Jewish sentiments, demands that the Rumanian constitution be modified in such a way as to introduce difference in citizenship types, in accordance with the ethnical origin of the citizens. Such a modification would mean that the Jews and other minorities in Rumania would be classified as citizens of a lower grade.
The change demanded by Dr. Vaida-Voevod would empower the government to establish quotas for Jews and other national minorities in all occupations and in the professions. The Jews will then officially be restricted, not only as far as employment in government positions is concerned, but even in private enterprizes.
A delegation of prominent Transylvanians, among whom Dr. Vaida-Voevod has great influence, arrived in Bucharest today to urge the government to effect the changes as soon as possible.
