World Zionist philosophy has changed to a philosophy of action in the last year instead of one of politics and resolutions, Prof. Selig Brodetsky, member of the executive of the World Zionist Organization, told the 1,000 delegates of the 25th annual convention of Junior Hadassah meeting here.
A great change has come in the past year with regard to Palestine, he said, “because there has been a great change in our methods. We no longer pass resolutions,” he said, “we have decided to act.”
Referring to proposals to separate the Negev from Israel, Brodetsky said Israel wanted the Negev not only because it had been awarded to it by the U.N. and presents the only place for potential resettlement of immigrants, but because “they tell us the Negev has oil and they tell us the Negev has metals and I see no reason why the state of Israel should not also have oil and metals.” In addition, he said, Israel needs the Negev for security reasons. “We must have access not only to Mediterranean in the West but to the Red Sea in the East,” he said. “Israel’s security would then be ten times grater.”
Lat night, in a message from Paris, Israeli Foreign Minister Moshe Shertok said that Junior Hadassah should become the “rallying point for young American Jewish womanhood in redoubling efforts for an effective response to the great historic challenge of our generation.”
