Five bearded hippie-type youngsters attacked the Bar-Ilan High School in this city’s Copacabana District and destroyed the doors, windows and some furniture inside the classrooms. The vandals escaped when a neighbor, responding to an alarm sounded by the school’s two private guards who were beaten, threatened to use his gun. More than 600 pupils study at the high school, which is considered the best Jewish school in Rio, and perhaps in Brazil. The attack was the third against Jewish institutions in Rio within the past two months. Previously, a bomb exploded in the wall of the Keren Kayemet office, and the doors and windows of the synagogue Achdut Israel, of the Syrian Jewish community, were destroyed. Those guilty of the attacks have not been found.’
