Vandals were held responsible here for the destruction of 18 palm trees on the grounds of the Phoenix Jewish Community Center.
The vandalism followed shortly after the community here was shocked by an attack on the Jewish community made by Joe Worthy, a local radio commentator, who assailed Bartley Crum for his recent appearance at a United Jewish Welfare Fund dinner. Previously, he had attacked Eddie Cantor and other prominent Jews for alleged Communism.
The Phoenix Jewish News said this week that Worthy’s broadcasting “is now a matter of official concern by the Jewish community and its friends and on the highest possible levels.”
