Arrangements for the transportation of 100 German refugees to the Dominican Republic on a passenger liner sailing from Genoa have been completed, it was learned today.
The group is the vanguard of 500 refugee families and more than 200 unmarried persons being selected for settlement in the Caribbean island under a project having the approval of the Intergovernmental Refugee Committee and President Roosevelt’s Advisory Committee on Refugees.
Fifty of the group will be settled by the Dominican Republic Settlement Association, American organization formed to finance and direct the project, while the others received independent entry permits. The latter were not allowed to start for the Dominican Republic until the Association assumed responsibility for them.
