Magr. Thomas J. MacMahon, of New York, head of the Papal Mission for Palestine and the Catholic Near East Relief Association, today crossed the front lines from the Arab-held Old City of Jerusalem to the modern city. Magr. McMahon, who was scheduled to enter Jewish Jerusalem early this week, was delayed.
He is visiting Israel during a tour of the Middle East in behalf of the Vatican and will spend several days at the Franciscan Order in Jerusalem. Before he leaves the Jewish state he will conduct negotiations with the Ministry of Religion about compensation for Church property which was allegedly damaged during the war. He will travel to Galilse via Tel Aviv.
